Is seasonality meaningful these days?

Its 28 degrees outside (82.4 Fahreneit)…you had better rug up!

It’s only February and we’re already seeing overcoats in stores in Australia. If you don’t know how crazy that is …it was a beautiful, sunny, 28 degrees (82.4 degrees fahrenheit) in Sydney on the day that I tried this coat on. We have had a crappy summer this year and there hasn’t been a hell of a lot of  beach weather but it doesn’t mean that Sydneysiders are ready to don overcoats. To give you a bit of context, in reality you we only need an overcoat in Sydney for about 4 weeks a year and the time you would actually need to use a coat like this would be at best, 4 months away!

When we were teens we wouldn’t even walk down the street with our Mums…let alone wear their clothes. We’re wondering if this is a shrewd move by Witchery or a total strategic miscalculation like the launch of their menswear range in 2009 (see clip below) ?

The Gucci brands financial struggles of the 80′s and 90′s have been well documented. Gucci family infighting and the bastardization of the brand through excessive licensing agreements had, over time, cheapened the image of the brand in the eyes of consumers. Domenico De Sole is famously attributed for turning around the fortunes of the Gucci brand and it would be kind of ironic if Gucci had to bring Domenico De Sole back from Tom Ford – to “Do the Gucci” another time.
