Selling Short the Chanel Experience

Karl Lagerfeld’s love of the photo booths continues…

‘In May  2011 at the  amfAR Gala Karl Lagerfeld presented a series of black and white «Photo-booth» portraits of celebrities which was followed by a Chanel’s Fall 2011-2012 Advertising Campaign – “Cocomaton” . The campaign was shot by Karl Lagerfeld, featured Freja Beha Erichsen, and famously styled by Carine Roitfeld. I am curious to know if the Andy Warhol Photo booth pictures published posthumously in 1989 by the Robert Miller Gallery of New York and Le fabuleux destin d’Amélie Poulain were an inspiration point for these images’.- Olya Bell

LCP – Music Makes me Happy but not Bose!

I have had a Bose sound system for over 4 years now and during a move the power cord was damaged. For over a year I have tried to order a new cord! I have contacted Bose, I even placed orders with two stores and payed deposits to ensure they order it! A year on and I still have had no success with either of the stores or Bose. Apologetically one of the suppliers have informed me that Bose was unlikely to fulfilled the order since there is a new power cord adaption. Star Service from Bose? – I don’t think so!

Not to be without music, whilst researching a replacement home sound system, I bought a Moshi BassBurger as a temporary solution. I have to say it has been fabulous! It is inexpensive and ideal for traveling with as it fits into the palm of my hand and has a great sound. It is quite amazing considering its size! I do however have to fight my husband for it! I think I might now buy myself the double!

Friends who have heard it have all gone away and bought one. A good friend was unable to but the Moshi BassBurger because it was out of stock bought the X-minII she also loves!

So why is it a LCP? It has surprisingly amazing sound for its size, its compact, travels well and recharges from my computer and it doesn’t drain power off my iphone when I use it! Now I can have music where ever I am!

Just incase you want one in Australia it retails for $29.98 buy online at Dicksmith.com.au or for overseas stockists information contact Lomis International. It is actually an Australian product due to be launched in the US shortly.

An alternate similar product is the X mini II capsule speaker  www.x-mini.com

The Givenchy Campaign v’s a Department Store Experience.

Personally I am a huge fan of this Fall 2011 Givenchy campaign shot by Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott, as a print experience I would rate it as Perfection ★★★★‘ - Hannah Brooks

Our Anne Hathaway V’s Gwyneth Paltrow – Does TOD’s Win post raised an interesting debate. When does using a well know model or actor/actress detract from the products/brand and make us focus more on the celebrity than the product?

In this case I believe the products and the band are the main feature. Givenchy have used  high-profile models yet my eyes are definitely drawn to the desirable products. I would be curious to see how this translates in store. Perfection ★★★★‘ – Olya Bell

Is this a hot trend?

Are you buying into this hot trend?

In my shopping travels I stumbled across this very interesting summer display. The Myer merchandising department had felt the need to add the title of “Hot Trend” to this strange collection of merchandise and it gave me such a giggle.

It just seemed so crazy to me… right in the middle of the busiest trading time of the year here was this incredibly lack-lustre display. This incident didn’t occur at a suburban outlet mall but in the Sydney Flagship Myer store.

The display doesn’t really say ”Hot Trend” to me (unless the hot trend is wearing three bags at the same time)…and I certainly wouldn’t be trusting the trend forecasting ability of  the creator of this particular merchandising program.

I know I may come off as a bit of a hater but Australian department stores just seem so complacent, fearful of innovation and if this display is any indication -  not really in the pursuit of profits. I think they need to lift their game ..am I too harsh????

Change-room Confidential…is this the world dirtiest change-room?

David Jones Bondi Junction – Underwear Department

Worn, stained carpet, lint in the corner

I was too sacred to put my bag down on the floor here…let alone try anything on. Isn’t poor lighting enough to contend with?

David Jones has downgraded their profits for Q4 this year and have predicted a drop in after tax profits of 15-20% for the first half of next year. David Jones Chief Executive Paul Zahra has used every excuse in the book from the new carbon tax, twitchy share markets, falling house prices, to competition from online retailers to explain these disappointing results.

Perhaps David Jones need to go back to basics. Australian shoppers might be much more willing to part with their hard-earned cash if you provided them with some decent service, a fun experience and a clean change-room.

Rate the experience – Pointless minus★

Someone, call the SPCBH!* It makes me so sad to see accessories so mistreated & neglected” - Hannah Brooks.   How will they ever find a home?” - Olya Bell.

Hannah Brooks: “The Australian retail scene can all too often be a bit of a hit and miss experience. Australian retailers frequently use excuses like pressure from overseas competition and the growth of online retailing to explain poor sales performance but perhaps they should be looking closer to home for an explanation. Olya and I took these photos below at David Jones (considered Australia’s premier department store) and from two people who are in “pursuit of perfect shopping moments” - we would say that it was quite the “miss” experience...
