Man up – Tell us what kind of man you are!
One of our valued readers requested we comment on Male Fragrances. So here it is!
This fashion savvy heterosexual male (“not that there is anything wrong with it”) had difficulties relating to the models and celebrities in fragrance print ads. He found that images of Matthew McConaughey / The One with his shirt off and the naked picture of Marc Jacobs/ Bang where neither aspirational or relatable.
Which made me question – How many men actually buy their own fragrances and how many male fragrances are marketed to women and gay men?
What adverts do you relate to and when was your last fragrance purchase? Who was it for?
Over the next few days I am going to post videos from top selling mens fragrances and later in the week comment on some of the print campaigns.

Frankly, I am amazed how female models have kept off men’s fragrance campaigns! Surely that would appeal to men more!?
I would agree. Maybe its because women are the ones who buy the most fragrances for men? I would be interested to see if anyone in the industry has some insight into this.
Couldn’t agree more, surely a mix – dependent on segment/target – of women covers, “real” looking males, and the cliche look. All segments coved.
Women might be buying the fragrances, but is a greased up Marc Jacobs, spread-eagled over a bed of tinfoil and playing hide-and-seek with his genitals behind a massive bottle of bang really appealing to women?
Seems to me like more of an ego boost for the man himself, Marc “I take pride in grooming” Jacobs. Or maybe I have missed the point and it’s actually a clever NYC tribute to Seinfeld, with Kramer after his butter-coated tanning session… “Stick a fork in me Jerry, I’m done”…
